Choosing the Best Tools for Missionaries - Check Out Our New Resource Tab!

Mission is messy! It requires practical, effective, and innovative tools that help us reach hearts and build communities. But how do you choose the best tools for the mission? What really makes a tool effective? Let’s explore this together.

Understanding Tools for Effective Mission

Challenges in mission shift every day, and in cross-cultural missions, they shift even faster. The work requires asking people what they need, walking with them, and helping bring resources alongside what their needs are. It means listening before acting, responding instead of assuming, and staying rooted in prayer as God leads each step.

There was a church in New Jersey that knew it needed to serve its community. Their first step was prayer. They asked God to show them what to do and how to do it. Then they went out, listened, asked questions, and trusted that God would provide a way forward.

In time, a clear need emerged: an early childhood center. As they continued to pray and take the next step, the right people, resources, and opportunities began to show up. Not by their own effort, but through God’s work.

When we slow down, pray, and listen, God reveals where He is already at work. His mission moves forward not because we have everything figured out, but because the Holy Spirit is leading the way.

Alongside this comes a real need for guidance, clarity, and direction. That’s where good resources matter.

There are sermons, Bible studies, training materials, and ministry guides shaped by the faithful work of others. These aren’t just tools for structure or ideas. They are rooted in the Word, which gives spiritual strength and life. Only by the power of the Word are we equipped to lead, serve, and step into the work God has set before us.

It can feel overwhelming trying to figure out what to use. There is a lot out there. But the goal is not to use everything. The goal is to find strong, faithful resources that fit your context and support the work God has already placed in front of you.

You are not doing this alone. Others have gone before you, and their work can help strengthen yours.

Our New Resource Tab!

We’re excited to introduce our new Resource tab. This is a place designed to equip and support you with tools that have already been created and tested in real ministry contexts.

Here are some essential categories of resources you’ll find there:

Sermons: Sometimes you need a place to start. Pre-written sermons can give you language, structure, and direction, especially when navigating cross-cultural ministry and outreach. More than that, they offer spiritual strength and inspiration, grounded in the truth that it is only by the power of the Word that we are equipped to lead and serve.

Bible Studies: Bible studies help individuals and groups engage Scripture in meaningful ways. Whether you’re leading a small group or discipling new believers, these resources provide clarity and focus. More than that, they offer spiritual strength and inspiration, grounding people in the Word that shapes and sustains faith.

Did you know we offer study guides for some of our books that can be used in Bible studies?

Books: Learn from those who have been doing this work faithfully. These books offer insight, experience, and practical guidance for ministry in diverse and changing communities. Many include stories written by immigrants themselves, helping you listen, understand, and see your community more clearly. Through these voices, you see wisdom shaped by real lives and real experiences.

Videos with Teaching Content: Hearing directly from others brings clarity and perspective. These resources help train, encourage, and spark meaningful conversations, all while pointing back to the truth of the Word that strengthens and guides the work.

Partner Ministries and Websites: You are not alone in this work. We’ve gathered connections to other ministries and organizations that are already serving in this space, so you can learn from and alongside them.

Everything in this resource tab is there to help you move forward without starting from scratch. The goal is simple: find what fits your ministry and use it well.

Four Tools for Spiritual Growth

On top of our resources, it's important to have resources for spiritual growth for your community. Here are four tools that can nurture this growth in yourself and those you serve:

  • Reading Scripture: Spend time in passages such as:

    • Acts 17:26–27 - And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us

    • Revelation 7:9 - After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

    • Matthew 28:18–20 -And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

    • Romans 10:13–15 - For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

These remind us that God is already at work among all people and that He sends His Church into that work.

  • Prayer Journals: Writing prayers and reflections helps you slow down, listen, and stay attentive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in the work.

  • Mission Prayer Partners: Pair people together to pray, share, and walk alongside one another in faith. Mission is not done alone.

  • Small Group Studies: Gather your ministry in the Word. Study, discuss, and reflect together so that understanding deepens and community is strengthened.
