Pastor Terry Chan, pastor of a multi-ethnic congregation in San Francisco, CA, and having received his Doctorate in Intercultural Studies, is well known in the LCMS community for championing multi-ethnicity throughout the Church. In this episode, he speaks with Sarah about initiatives and ideas for reaching an ethnic group different from your own. Listen as Pastor Terry talks about the “4 G’s” of reaching out, and shares some of the fears and excuses people have against changing their church culture to strive for a multi-ethnic church body. Pastor Terry’s strategy is developing diaspora missions that reach to, through, by, beyond and with ethnic communities. You will be inspired to go and reach out to disciple people of all ethnicities within your community.

Pastor Jeff Skopak joined Sarah to discuss his experiences reaching other ethnic groups within his community. He shares some helpful tips on how to encourage your congregation towards outreach, using your congregation's strengths to minister to new immigrant communities. One piece of advice he shares is to start by going to the local public school to find out what the demographics are in your area and what populations and needs exist in your community. Discover what the needs are that your church can begin to minister to in those peoples which God has brought into your ever changing community. Pastor Jeff reminds us- Jesus tells us to go!

Pastor Mark gives sage advice to listen first to a new ethnic ministry and their needs, support them without directing them, and find unique ways to blend your ministries perhaps through a church event like a Thanksgiving Dinner!

Lauderdale, FL. Tim has seen a lot in his 42 years of parish ministry, and he shares how the Lutheran church is trying to reach out to ethnic communities in Florida. Pastor Tim shares some enlightening ideas on how to help pastors to challenge their congregations to seek out and include diverse ethnic groups in their churches, like doing things we traditionally haven’t done in the past. You will be inspired and encouraged by Pastor Tim’s insights.
